MARKETING ABORTION
Thursday, February 24, 2005
"Freedom of choice – a basic American right." "Women must have control over their own bodies." "Pro-choice" "I remember laughing when we made those slogans up. We were looking for some sexy, catchy slogans to capture public opinion. They were very cynical slogans then, just as all of these slogans today are very, very cynical. We persuaded the media that the cause of permissive abortion was a liberal, enlightened, sophisticated one, knowing that if a true poll were taken, we would be soundly defeated, we simply fabricated the results of fictional polls. We announced to the media that we had taken polls and that 60 percent of Americans were in favor of permissive abortion." Bernard Nathanson, M.D., co-founder of pro-abortion vanguard group NARAL, (originally, the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws, later renamed the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, just recently renamed NARAL Pro-Choice America), commenting about the early days of the abortion-rights movement in the late '60s and early '70s. And of course, as with the recent fraudulent AP poll, we know that the abortion crowd continues to need its lies to support itself. Truth exists; only lies are invented. Author: Horatius Bonar, D.D.

PRIVATE PROPERTY = FREEDOM
Eminent domain is being challenged in the Supreme Court by a group of individuals unwilling to lose their homes to government land grabbers. The strength of the Constitution of the United States is its central force to limit government--returning the power to individuals rather than a ruling caste. (otherwise we would have remained chattels of King George). Eminent domain is a tool of collective socialism whose abuses are widespread and prolific. Freedom from government seizure is at stake here--liberals and conservatives alike should watch this one with baited breath. Man only,--rash, refined, presumptuous Man-- Starts from his rank, and mars Creation's plan! Born the free heir of nature's wide domain, To art's strict limits bounds his narrow'd reign; Resigns his native rights for meaner things, For Faith and Fetters, Laws and Priests and Kings. TOP 5
The post below mentions the top 5 current subjects on "left-leaning" 'blogs. The Snipet will take a single argument from an issue for the next couple of weeks and comment. Abortion: Joe Reid says: "The issue: whether abortions will be safe I have yet to see a letter on an editorial page that discusses the reality of abortion rather than the legality of abortion. Abortion procedures predate Christianity. Abortions have always existed and will continue regardless of legality. Making abortions illegal will only result in a return to class privilege, wherein people of means will have a legal "D and C" procedure and less fortunate folks will be forced to find illegal, unsafe abortion providers. The fight isn't really about choice, it's about whether safe abortions are available, regardless of one's economic means. "Choose Life" proponents might contemplate the loss of lives to unsafe abortions, where both the fetus and the mother are lost. If you think those deaths are justified, you may go to church and call yourself a Christian, but that doesn't make you one, any more than going into a garage makes you a car." ____________________________ Joe, let's follow your logic: First Paragraph-
  • People are going to use drugs, so they should be legalized so it can be safe
  • Pedophiles are going to molest children, so it should be legalized so it can be safe
  • Underage drinking is going to happen, so it should be legalized so it can be safe
  • Prostitution is going to happen, so it should be legalized so it can be safe
  • Rape and incest is going to happen, so it should be legalized so it can be safe
  • Child pornography is going to be created and sold, so it should be legalized so it can be safe
  • Breaking the speed limit is going to happen, so it should be dropped so we can be safe

Also, Joe, cavemen used to drag women around by their hair and trade them like animals--that predates Christianity too...

Second Paragraph-

Joe, people are going to do stupid things--get abortions among them, but I am not responsible for someone having an unsafe abortion any more than I would be responsible for someone whose faith is placed in a breaking condom giving them HIV. (This in response to his 'garage' example) These are the realities vs. the legalities, Joe. Think your argument hold's water?

ABU GHRAIB
Friday, February 18, 2005
Ever hear of Abu Ghraib? Hmm... I seem to recall something printed on the back page of the newspaper or tucked in the end of some newscast some months ago. Wasn't that some event where terrorists were stripped and had photos taken of them? Ever hear about the widespread rape of Congolese children by U.N. soldiers and the hundreds of babies, fathered by U.N. personnel that have been born to Congolese girls and women -- including the 15-year-old deaf mute daughter of Aimee Tsesi? Ever hear about the monstrosities that have been tolerated by U.N. brass for years. The latest Congo revelations come three years after another U.N. report found "widespread" evidence of sexual abuse of West African refugees. Girls and women in East Timor, Cambodia and Kosovo have reported sex crimes perpetrated by U.N. peacekeepers.) Oh yeah! That's been all OVER the mainstream news outlets and on the front page of the LA Times for weeks!

ANOTHER PROUD SOUTH CAROLINA STATISTIC
Wednesday, February 16, 2005
Inez Tennenbaum (D-SC), Education Secretary, and head of South Carolina's education department for close to 20 years just lost to Jim Demint (R-SC) for the Senate bid. Here in the state of SC. we elect our education secretary, and Tennenbaum has won for years on name recognition. In addition to like statistics, the most recently released is another proud feather in Inez's (D-SC) cap. We are DEAD last in graduating students. This is just one more of a lot of other things we are dead last in educationally. We do not need education reform, we need to discard the broken and create new. If socialists are pro-choice on issues like abortion and gay marriage why aren't they pro-choice on education? I don't get it. MODERATION - HOORAH!
Tuesday, February 15, 2005
In my daily internet travels I have run across one of the most hilarious posts and discussion strings I have seen in some time. If you have a chance, go to Democratic Underground What is so funny is that these people are praising Dean's "moderation" when moderation is not what this site is all about! DU does not want moderation in regards to the abortion issue, the gun control issue, gay marriage issue or anything else? Why then would they be upholding Dean by way of Paul Krugman's NY Times opinion piece? Democrats, do you know that Howard Dean is and was supported by the NRA and won its seal of approval for advocating gun ownership and relaxed gun legislation? Democrats, do you know that Dean advocating cutting taxes and social spending? Democrats, do you know that Dean is against generational welfare and many social programs? Makes me wonder if abortion is the only litmus test an individual has to pass in order to move forward in the Democrat Party... Are Democrats becoming...Republicans? I look forward to the Democrat's move toward moderation.

Moderation is a fatal thing. . . . Nothing succeeds like excess. Author: Oscar Wilde

I have searched my fellow bloggers from the left to find outrage over the Democrat Party using abortion rights as a litmus test to disqualify Tim Roemer from running the DNC. Quote of the Day
Quote of the Day The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men. PHYSICS
Friday, February 11, 2005
For years the Snipet has maintained that the law of physics--for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction--applied to a lot more than physics. While some activism is necessary, too much often has outcomes opposite those intended. The homosexual rights, environmental, and anti-religion activists would do well to take note. This sign is posted in Hollywood--thanking Michael Moore and like extremists for the re-election of George Bush. CONSISTENCY
One thing that the Snipet prides itself on is consistency. While not always consistent, it edeavors to be consistent. One of the purposes of the Snipet is to point out INconsistencies, and as you know INconsistencies abound in our world. Long-time readers know that the Snipet criticizes neo-conservative INconsistencies just as quickly as left-leaning INconsistencies. Bush INconsistencies are as fair game as Clinton INconsistencies; Republican INconsistencies as Democrat INconsistencies. For example: The Snipet observes that those who are criticizing the new "Big Government" are the same ones who ideologically ask for it. The Snipet observes that those who are criticizing cuts in the budget are the same that have been asking for them. ------------------------------------------------- Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago. LEAVIN' FOR CANADA!
"It's the sort of place Norman Rockwell would paint, where everyone watches out for everyone else and we have block parties every year," said Key, a 56-year-old Vietnam War veteran and former magazine editor who lists Francis Scott Key, who wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner," among his ancestors. But leave it he intends to do, and as soon as he can. His house is on the market, and he is busily seeking work across the border in Canada. For him, the re-election of George W. Bush was the last straw. "I love the United States," he said as he stood on the Vancouver waterfront, staring toward the Coastal Range, which was lost in a gray shroud. "I fought for it in Vietnam. Let's look at a just suppose. Just suppose my TEN year old daughter watches PBS's Buster Bunny's visit to the lesbian household and it raises questions in her mind. (See two posts below) Just suppose that my TEN year old daughter's inquisitive mind is piqued enough to investigate further the doings of a lesbian couple. Just suppose in her investigation she is sufficiently interested to experiment with what she has learned, and in so doing seeks out a fellow child and acts upon the influence put forth by PBS. Just suppose in so doing, my TEN year old child contacts a deadly disease in the process--or gets charged by another family for sexual assault? CAN I SUE PBS FOR THE $200 MILLION THAT RAY CROC'S RICH WIDOW GAVE THEM? If not, WHY? Joe Camel got sued! Randi Rhodes seems to think there's not a problem.

MAYBE DEMOCRATS SHOULD LISTEN TO THEIR PATRON SAINT
"In the important field of security for our old people, it seems necessary to adopt three principles: First, noncontributory old-age pensions for those who are now too old to build up their own insurance. It is, of course, clear that for perhaps 30 years to come funds will have to be provided by the States and the Federal Government to meet these pensions. Second, compulsory contributory annuities that in time will establish a self-supporting system for those now young and for future generations. Third, voluntary contributory annuities by which individual initiative can increase the annual amounts received in old age. It is proposed that the Federal Government assume one-half of the cost of the old-age pension plan, which ought ultimately to be supplanted by self-supporting annuity plans." -FDR

SEATBELTS SCHMEATBELTS - PART 2
The Snipet hates to post articles of this length, because I know you blog surfers are busy people. In 2003 I wrote this shortly after a huge response to the first article about seatbelts I wrote (see below). For those interested in the issue, it may be a worthwhile read. -Jack -------------------------------------------- SOCIALIST LAW - A FOLLOW UP TO THE SEATBELT LAW SNIPET KEY POINT Socialism begins by placing the cost of irresponsibility or even responsibility on society in general, then, when the cost becomes too great, enacting laws limiting personal freedom to either justify or limit the expense. -Jack Mercer TWO KINDS OF LAW The United States Constitution provides for two types of law: Tort law (private wrong AGAINST an individual) and Criminal law (public wrongs AGAINST society). Both of these kind of laws fit within the framework of both democracy and capitalism. A THIRD LAW The seat belt law brought about an entirely new, (well, its origins are not new and the attempts at similar legislation has been often promoted by socialists or communists), type of law. A law governing PERSONAL behavior that has essentially PERSONAL outcomes. For example, if a law is enacted to outlaw me dropping my clothes on my bedroom floor because of the threat it poses to my own safety, it is an infringement upon my PERSONAL choice about something that affects ME. (my clutter floor is NOT a threat to other individuals or society-although some would argue to the contrary). The seatbelt law is the same kind of law. These laws are ALWAYS justified on two bases: 1. The elimination of the personal right is GOOD for society if it minimizes the COST to society Flawed fundamentally because it SHOULDN'T be a cost to society to begin with. This is a fundamental flaw of socialism. It has become so, because of the impetus of socialism in government. An example of this is if I jump off a cliff and we make it society's (your) responsibility to pay for my funeral costs. 2. The government or legislative body is more qualified in determining what is better for us, than ourselves, thereby enacting laws that are tyranical. Flawed by a simple review of history. For example, the surgeon general has determined that smoking can be hazardous to your health. If your health suffers then you may become disabled and put on medicaid (which is the burden of society's and soon to be much MUCH BIGGER!) and therefore smoking should be made illegal because the government knows what is best for you. Similar laws are the universal healthcare argument (a healthy nation is for the good of all, therefore everyone should bear the cost of keeping everyone healthy), sodomy laws (people's behavior in their own bedrooms), etc... THE NATURAL PROGRESSION In the extreme China has justified euthanasia as viable because of the cost old people, the mentally retarded and physically incapable place on society. Same goes for some European countries. (Cost to society-same argument people use about having to use a seatbelt!). This is another argument used in the abortion debate. A SNIPET HISTORY LESSON Because its important to see the early warning signs of socialism and socialistic law and it natural progression: A social movement begins from a condition of latency where people become concerned about an issue making a social basis for the movement. There then comes a period of demonstration, or actions take place, in an isolated way until someone, possibly a public figure, puts forward the principle in a form which enables the movement to give itself a name and begin to formulate a program. At first social movements are generally unstructured and lack formal rules and programs, but in time these grow up in direct proportion as a social movement develops its program. Soon, within its ranks there develops various 'party-lines' (ie: democrat/republican, moderates/conservative, etc). A social movement has completed its mission when its defining principle has been accepted by ALL (whether assent of decent) and is written into the programs of all political parties and all aspects of social life, and at the same time, the principle has grown from being a "single issue" to constituting one aspect of the "world view". A good example: 20 years ago the most TOLERANT would have laughed outright about the notion of our legislature considering gay marriages. Given the social impetus that the movement has had, it has integrated itself into our society to such a degree that it is now being considered in legislation. SHREDDING THE CONSTITUTION The final result in this system is that it begins making every decision based on the "good" of society, and therefore "individual" rights become non-existent. This is the reason many in government would say that the rights given in the constitution are not individual rights but societal or group rights. IT FITS INTO THE MARX PLAYBOOK Karl Marx wrote: "For each new class which puts itself in the place of one ruling before it, is compelled, merely in order to carry through its aim, to represent its interest as the common interest of all the members of society, that is, expressed in ideal form: it has to give its ideas the form of universality, and represent them as the only rational, universally valid ones. The class making a revolution appears from the very start, if only because it is opposed to a class, not as a class but as the representative of the whole of society; it appears as the whole mass of society confronting the one ruling class." Karl lets the cat out of the bag by his statement by indicating the establishment of "social" goods by ruling classes are nothing but more than power grabs for complete control over the masses! BEWARE "GOOD" THINGS It can never be argued that a seat belt law isn't a good IDEA, but it can never be viewed as a good THING, because of the far reaching and deceptive precedence that it sets. KEEP THIS SNIPET FOR FUTURE REFERENCE SO YOU CAN SAY "JACK SAID SO" Some Snipet predictions given current trends: 1. Cigarettes will be outlawed or become controlled substances eventually, but only after they are taxed or regulated into extinction and no longer a lucrative source of revenue for the government. 2. Fat taxes, obesity rules or something related to penalizing fat people or the purveyors of goods that "cause" someone to be fat will imposed. It will begin with McDonalds and other fast food restaurants eventually having to settle a multibillion dollar lawsuit similar to the tobacco one. See a rise in the power of the FDA to limit carbs and calories in foods or the placement of warning labels on Little Debbie Cakes. 3. Cell phone usage, eating, or anything else while driving will become individualized rules. (P.S. This was written a year before the first cellphone use in autos law was enacted. The Snipet is right!) We already have negligent driving rules, but the move toward socialism will dictate more specialized/specific rules governing specific acts. These acts will have to be monitored in order to be effective, therefore systems will be enacted and enabled to be able to monitor them. (P.S. The "black box" in automobile proposition offered in California took place just recently. Don't expect to see this legislation die) 4. A myriad of individual rights will be trampled because they are not for the good of society such as gun ownership, etc. SO AMERICA, BUCKLE UP AND KISS YOUR FREEDOM GOODBYE!

Thursday, February 03, 2005
President Bush figured Social Security heavily into his State of the Union speech last night. Its time for my fellow political analysts to weigh in on the whole issue. On your left you will see the latest Snipet Poll. Plug in your answer, then use the comments to convince us of your position: 1. Leave it alone 2. Make private accounts or any of the other points. Look forward to your input.

SEAT BELTS SCHMEAT BELTS
Today's SC Legislature made South Carolina's mandatory seat belt law a primary law (in other words, cops can pull someone over for not wearing a seatbelt). I wrote this article back in 2003 concerning this whole socialist law: SEAT BELTS SAVE LIVES! Two reports were released yesterday: The National Safety Council released a study proclaiming that more than 12,000 people died from 1995 through 2002 because their states lacked laws that allow police to ticket motorists SOLELY for failing to buckle up. As a result of the study, federal officials are renewing a recommendation first made in 1995 that all states pass PRIMARY seatbelt laws (laws allowing police to stop motorists for not wearing their seatbelts). Ellen Engleman, head of the National Transportation Safety Board, said, "It is tragic that 30 states have failed to act to implement this safety countermeasure that costs nothing but could save so many." The second study released was from the Center for Disease Control. According to the CDC, influenza infects up to 20 percent of the U.S. population, killing about 36,000 Americans a year and hospitalizing 114,000. The CDC insists that flu shots would protect most of those people. No recommendations are being made by the federal government or any other agency making flu shots mandatory or urging states to adopt PRIMARY flu shot laws requiring people to be ticketed for failing to get one. To justify seat belt laws, the case is made that insurance rates would be lower, the cost to society would be less due to lost productivity, and lives would be saved, etc., etc. The same case should be used in preventable flu illnesses, whose cost to society is 20 times more than those due to a few traffic accidents. Call your congressman today and push for mandatory flu shots. "We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans" - Bill Clinton

GOOD ARGUMENT
FOR GETTING OLD PEOPLE OFF THE ROAD. SALT LAKE CITY - Talking on a cell phone makes you drive like a retiree — even if you're only a teen, a new study shows. A report from the University of Utah says when motorists between 18 and 25 talk on cell phones, they drive like elderly people — moving and reacting more slowly and increasing their risk of accidents.

BENJAMIN F. WOULD HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED
One of the Snipet's favorite quotes is from Benjamin Franklin. They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. While some cast about for blame, whether the Bush Administration our government in general, or dare I say WE THE PEOPLE, its evident that we have opened the door to the devil of tyranny and invited him in to stay. Paul Craig Robert's nails it. Click here.

GOOD EXAMPLE
Of an ideologue: Sunday night Chris Matthews from Goofball intimated the possibility that U.S. soldiers forced Iraqis to vote "Was it that clean? Was there no pushing by American soldiers or coalition forces to make people vote or discourage them from not voting?" Where do they get this stuff?

IDEOLOGUES
Ideologue: an often blindly partisan advocate or adherent of a particular ideology (Webster Dictionary) The problem with ideologues is that they fail to recognize the danger of their own philosophy before it's too late, and then want to deny the reality of its fruition. - Jack Mercer There are "left" and "right" ideologues. These individuals worship with religious fervor a paradigm often to the exclusion of rational thought. Ignorance is rarely an excuse, because when faced with facts and the truth, they are often immaterial to the argument. Here are examples of blind faith: Right Ideologues:
  • The Bush Administration is conservative
  • Bush is pro-life
  • The Republican Party is anti-tax
  • The Republican Party supports the 2nd Amendment
  • Bill Clinton never did anything right
  • Liberals don't think
  • The conservative talk shows are always truthful
  • The Bush Administration's policy has been flawless
  • Minorities are liberal
  • All environmentalism is nuts
Left Ideologues:
  • Bush stole the election
  • Privatization will destroy social security
  • Bush is a war criminal for the war in Iraq (without holding Bill Clinton to the same standard for multiple bombings and incursions into Iraq)
  • Increasing taxes improves the economy
  • The mainstream media is unbiased
  • President Bush does not have a mandate. (most don't even understand what a mandate is)
  • Minorities are helpless without the assistance of the great white race
  • All environmentalism is science

And the list could go on. Care to add?

"Snipet" (pronounced: snipe - it) is not a word.It is a derivative of two words: "Snipe" and "Snippet".

Miriam Webster defines Snipe as: to aim a carping or snide attack, or: to shoot at exposed individuals (as of an enemy's forces) from a usually concealed point of vantage.

Miriam Webster defines Snippet as: : a small part, piece, or thing; especially : a brief quotable passage.

In short, "Snipets" are brief, snide shots at exposed situations from a concealed vantage point.
