Let's look at a just suppose. Just suppose my TEN year old daughter watches PBS's Buster Bunny's visit to the lesbian household and it raises questions in her mind. (See two posts below) Just suppose that my TEN year old daughter's inquisitive mind is piqued enough to investigate further the doings of a lesbian couple. Just suppose in her investigation she is sufficiently interested to experiment with what she has learned, and in so doing seeks out a fellow child and acts upon the influence put forth by PBS. Just suppose in so doing, my TEN year old child contacts a deadly disease in the process--or gets charged by another family for sexual assault? CAN I SUE PBS FOR THE $200 MILLION THAT RAY CROC'S RICH WIDOW GAVE THEM? If not, WHY? Joe Camel got sued! Randi Rhodes seems to think there's not a problem.

Open lines of communication won't stop an STD. Also, just because you have an open relationship with your child doesn't mean she won't go out and do something very VERY stupid. I had an "open relationship" with my mother but I still made my own choices. Some she disagreed with. We have freewill and "open lines of communication" can't stop that.

I think Jack's post is at least a little tongue-in-cheek here. I'm guessing he's not really in favor using lawsuits to shift personal responsibility :-)

Now, what if, after Buster Bunny's visit to a Mormon family, your son decides to start engaging in polygamy?

    Hi Art!

Thanks for stopping by and making a comment.

Do your children get all of their information from you? Also, do they
act strictly on the info you give them, or do they have minds of their
    own?

My daughter used to watch Arthur when she was 5 years old...this is the
age the cartoon is targetted at. I hardly wish to discuss sexuality
with my 5 year old, and I use a lot of discretion about what I discuss
    with her at ten.

    Make sense?

Also, Kathy, I think Art is a little new to the Snipet sense of satire. :)

Oh, and gee whiz, let's use a little common sense here. Let's apply about 25% more thought and 25% less emotion and pc lunacy!

Just suppose my TEN year old little sister watches The WB's 7th Heaven which features a heterosexual couple and it raises questions in her mind.

I don't have any witty comments. It's too late for witty comments. But I like your blog. And I'm from SC too. OK, I'm done.

    Hi Lefty!

One fundamental difference you're missing. Buster Bunny is in a CARTOON! I don't let my ten year old daughter watch 7th Heaven, Dawson's Creek, or anything else with adult content.

Oh, and I don't think there is an agenda on 7th Heaven to promote heterosexuality...

    Make sense?

    Nettie,

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Where from in SC?

Yes, Buster is a cartoon, but the families he visits are not. And I don't hear anyone objecting when Buster visits families with heterosexual parents. Additionally, what sexual content could there possibly be in this show?

Lefty you crack me up! :) Buster visiting heterosexual parents? Lefty, the homosexual population in the United States is estimated to be less than 3%. Homosexual "families" are even hugely less. The chances of running into a friend with two mommies or daddies is so slim its not funny (unless you're in Colorado, Mass or California). In spite of homosexuality's rareness it is portrayed thousands of times a day on tv, and is in a majority of tv shows now. There are more homosexuals in shows in terms of representation of their minority percentage, than African Americans, Hispanics, or Orientals.

Lefty, the problem with the left is they have no balance in this matter. I am content to treat with dignity and respect anyone--I don't go trying to shove my religion down people's throat--and don't appreciate anyone doing it to me.

    Make sense?

There have been 127 episodes of the Arthur cartoon over nine seasons, including two specials. One of them has addressed homosexuality. According to my math, that means that 7/10 of 1% of their shows have addressed the issue. I think that hardly qualifies as cramming the issue down one's throught. ;-)

"Snipet" (pronounced: snipe - it) is not a word.It is a derivative of two words: "Snipe" and "Snippet".

Miriam Webster defines Snipe as: to aim a carping or snide attack, or: to shoot at exposed individuals (as of an enemy's forces) from a usually concealed point of vantage.

Miriam Webster defines Snippet as: : a small part, piece, or thing; especially : a brief quotable passage.

In short, "Snipets" are brief, snide shots at exposed situations from a concealed vantage point.
