And the book of Acts isn't socialist?

Nope, Helen--never once was it condoned that religion legislate through government. There has only been one authentic theocracy and that was for the children of Israel post Egypt.
What happened in Acts had to do with the New Testament church and involved only its membership and those they served. They did not impose their will, their lifestyle or their religion on anyone through government. Of course we know that there have been many religions who use government to control, not only the RC church from Constantine onward. It goes back as far as Babylon (that we know of) where the people of Babylon were forced under threat of death to worship a particular way. It existed under Rome and every other empire.
It wasn't until the teachings of Roger Williams were brought forth by Thomas Jefferson that there was the recognition for the seperation of church and state. It was through this that the freedom to practice belief systems (ones own conscience regardless of religion) was brought into our great nation.
Keep in mind that socialism is all about the legislation of morality. Helen, it doesn't always stop with the redistribution of wealth, it enters every aspect of our lives. Bans on homosexual marriage, even pre-emptive wars (holy wars--ie. Iraq) become socialistic justifications. Americans are largely ignorant of socialism and what it does for a nation. There has been more blood shed in more wars for socialism than any other reason.
I have lived in Roman Catholic countries. They are desperately poor. Yep, capitalism is evil, and all of the wealth resides mostly in the church. I wrote an email to a Catholic friend along this line, and I will try to find it and post it. It may help understand the history of the Catholic church and its world government initiatives and aims.
Sorry such a long answer, Helen!

Thanks Jack. Let me digest this a bit. (That means it's getting too late for me to "get it.") Helen

This is interesting because I was just telling a friend of mine that I believe in having a theocracy because no democracy can hope to have a moral culture for very long. Americans' view of history is often skewed in favor of their own ideals. For instance, the Puritan immigrants are hailed as harbingers of democracy yet they themselves lived in a theocratic society. About legislating morality -- if there is such a thing as morality should it not be legislated?

"Snipet" (pronounced: snipe - it) is not a word.It is a derivative of two words: "Snipe" and "Snippet".
Miriam Webster defines Snipe as: to aim a carping or snide attack, or: to shoot at exposed individuals (as of an enemy's forces) from a usually concealed point of vantage.
Miriam Webster defines Snippet as: : a small part, piece, or thing; especially : a brief quotable passage.
In short, "Snipets" are brief, snide shots at exposed situations from a concealed vantage point.
