NIMBY |
Wednesday, March 16, 2005 |
It always amazes me the hypocricy of individuals within our country who continue to drive their SUV, but don't want to pay the price it takes. Fully willing to let other countries drill their land and export, but when the rubber meets the road, they are nothing but hypocritical NIMBY's. (In case you are unfamiliar with that term it means "Not In My Back Yard).
If you are against drilling in Alaska, then you should put your money where your mouth is and stop driving. Until you're ready to do that, sit down and shut up.
Take a look at the news article below. Its obvious from the inserted photography which way these people lean.

It's a sad time for people who care about clean air, clean water and wild spaces. These kind of things are going to keep happening for at least four years, though.
Jack, I agree with your comments about hypocrites. There are lots of people who have greatly reduced their oil consumption by buying hybrid cars or using alternative forms of tranist whenever they can. But there are still too many people who care more about having their SUV and living in their sprawling community than they do about some remote part of Alaska.

Kathy, don't make the mistake of just blaming the environmental problems on the Republicans--Democrats give the same lip service to environmental issues that Republicans do about abortion--its just words to satisfy constituents and keep them voting for them. As skeptics we need to see the politicians for who they are by what they do.
I realize there are many who are trying to do their part--even we are, but until we get serious about the issue, as you say, it will just get worse. As human beings we usually try to fix things after they're broken, not try to prevent and preserve. Why do we expect any less from our power-hungry self-serving politicians?
Great to always see you as usual, Kathy! Keep up that activism! :)

Damn, JM. It's amazing how well Da Snip captures my thoughts.
How about all these whiners? Unless they're bicycling to work and living off of solar energy, they need that oil just as much as the rest of us.
Wouldn't it be nice if they'd remember that before they complained?

"Snipet" (pronounced: snipe - it) is not a word.It is a derivative of two words: "Snipe" and "Snippet".
Miriam Webster defines Snipe as: to aim a carping or snide attack, or: to shoot at exposed individuals (as of an enemy's forces) from a usually concealed point of vantage.
Miriam Webster defines Snippet as: : a small part, piece, or thing; especially : a brief quotable passage.
In short, "Snipets" are brief, snide shots at exposed situations from a concealed vantage point.
