RUMMIE RUMBLES - ANOTHER MEDIA SETUP |
Wednesday, December 22, 2004 |
The truth trickles out. "It now appears that the premise of the
question that caused an uproar around Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was, so to speak, off base," FNC's Brit Hume noted Tuesday night in reminding viewers how two weeks ago National Guardsman "Thomas Wilson said to Rumsfeld, quote, 'our vehicles are not armored, we do not have proper armament vehicles to carry with us north,' into Iraq." But, Hume relayed, "according to senior Army officers, about 800 of the 830 vehicles in Wilson's Army regiment, the 278th Calvary, had already been up-armored" at the time of his widely publicized question. Some Hearst newspapers reported that fact last week and since then it has trickled up the media stream into the Washington Times and FNC, but not the other networks or major newspapers.

Rumsfeld was ambushed with that question, after all it did come from a reporter not the solder, but he should be asked to leave his post as Sec. of Def. His ideas for transforming the military have no basis in reality. The creation of the Stryker Brigades, centered around the lightly armored Stryker AFV will eventually lead to many battlefield deaths when they are sent into combat against a real army, not a bunch of terrorists. What we need are more foot soldiers, ditch some of the 1200 military occupational specialties and give more guys rifles.

Doug, you know far more about military matters than I do, so I'm going to take your word for it. My take on Rumsfeldt, though, is that he has done pretty well-- Afghanistan and Iraq quickly fell. The Iraqi aftermath, I feel, is a combination of problems from the State Department and the Department of Defense. Overall, I think Rum is getting a bum rap, and being made the fall guy for the idiots in Congress who want to find someone to blame for their decision.

"Snipet" (pronounced: snipe - it) is not a word.It is a derivative of two words: "Snipe" and "Snippet".
Miriam Webster defines Snipe as: to aim a carping or snide attack, or: to shoot at exposed individuals (as of an enemy's forces) from a usually concealed point of vantage.
Miriam Webster defines Snippet as: : a small part, piece, or thing; especially : a brief quotable passage.
In short, "Snipets" are brief, snide shots at exposed situations from a concealed vantage point.
